DE-5000 Test Lead Upgrade & Capacitor Comparison

It’s nice that TL-21 alligator clips come with the DE-5000 LCR Meter, but boy are they short! I replaced these alligator clips with kelvin clips, giving myself much longer leads to work with in the future.

Next, I tested three different capacitors of the same value and voltage rating: A 40-year-old Matsushita (pulled from a late ‘70s Yamaha CR-420 receiver), a new cheapo ChongX, and a new “audio grade” Nichicon. I entered their capacitance, ESR, and dissipation measurement values into a table and compared and discussed the results between test leads and across different test frequencies.
